An Intro to Desert Arts Pottery!

Welcome!

Since this is my first blog post I'll introduce myself.  My name is Dana Flemming and I'm originally from San Diego, California.

I've been working with clay for over 22 years and it's as fresh and exciting today as it was those many years ago when I took my first ceramics class.

I opened my Desert Arts Pottery shop on Etsy in 2009 but due to other obligations my shop has sat idle until very recently.  I'm very excited about getting my shop set up and running!

I have worked with all types of clay and forming methods and have tried every firing method possible including some pretty unconventional types of firings.

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics and have taught beginning and intermediate ceramics.  I have a number of pieces in private collections and one piece in the permanent collection of a museum.

I'll be working with stoneware clay to create ceramic sculptures for my shop and will also be using a variety of vintage plaster molds to do some slip casting to create some anthropomorphic pieces.  I love mixed media and will be incorporating a variety of other materials into my ceramic pieces including mosaic tiles.

  2. Thank you for commenting! The Milk Bone was actually donated to an animal rescue organization and hangs on the wall in their main office. The ceramic dog resides with me :)
